Spring has Sprung

Think back to when you were a kid in elementary school. Do you remember what you felt on the last day of school? The last week of school? Were you soooo excited for school to be done, the doors to be open and you to be free!!!! Wahooooooooooooooo! I think that’s what the flowers and trees and anything that grows in Springtime must feel like. Hallelujah – more sun than clouds, more warmth than cold, and ground that’s easy to break through!!!

For me, being in the library was always like the last day of school or warm spring weather. I felt free. Shelf after shelf of books – covering anything and everything – ghost stories (my favorite) and books about animals (not my favorite). My elementary school librarian was a superwoman (now, 25+ years later I believe it even more)! She positioned the book shelves so that if a child were so inclined she could cuddle up in between the shelves and read and not be seen by anyone. There were comfy pillows to lean on, and windows that let in all sorts of afternoon sun. I want to create an atmosphere like that in my future school library – a place where students want to come because they like how it feels and they like how they feel in it.

Happy Spring my friends, happy Spring!!
