part-time archives position available

I am writing to ask whether you would inform students of a part-time
position sorting and describing the business and personal papers of a local
book dealer. The position would require about 5-12 hours a week at the rate
of $15/hour, hours to be chosen either on Thursdays and/or Fridays, 10AM to
4PM, with a possible Wednesday available from time to time. The job may
continue through July.

The student would be working with me (a GSLIS graduate) and Norman Fiering
(recently retired director of the John Carter Brown Library). The
collection will be sent to the John Carter Brown Library when we're done.
We are working in an apartment across from Lord & Taylor's and Sak's Fifth
Avenue at the Prudential Center (Copley Square/Prudential T), so it's very
convenient. It would be ideal if the person had a laptop to work on,
because we are creating a simple finding aid in Microsoft Word. The JCB
doesn't have EAD finding aids, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Word
finding aid gets marked up in simple HTML for their Library/Archive website.

I am available to answer any question. My email address is
diane.booton@gmail.com

Many thanks!

Positions at the NY State Archives

A note from the poster at the NY State Archives: For the entry level positions,
students must complete their Masters by May 31, 2007, this should enable
current students to qualify. And since it is a training and experience exam,
they don't need to be in New YOrk to apply.

Announcement of Civil Service Examinations for positions at the NY State
Archives

The New York State Archives encourages individuals interested in working for an
energetic, dynamic organization to take the civil service examination for
Archives and Records Management Specialist I and II positions. This
examination is an evaluation of your training and experience that you complete
at home; there is no need to take a formal test at an examination site in New
York State.

The list of candidates resulting from this examination will likely remain in
force for the next five years, and we encourage individuals interested in
employment, whether now or at some point in the future, to complete the
examination and application process. We anticipate that a variety of positions
will become vacant while this list is in effect, among them those specializing
in: preservation; digitization; electronic records; reference services; grants
administration; Web site and information resource development; and provision of
advisory services to local governments and historical records repositories
throughout New York State.

The deadline for receiving applications to take this examination is April 9,
2007. You will find more information regarding qualifications and the
application process on the New York State Department of Civil Service website:

http://www.cs.state.ny.us/announ/scheduled/Apr09-2007/27-972.cfm

management and archival services for 63 state agencies, 4300 local governments

government records documenting New York State’s history from the Dutch colonial
era through the early 21st century. For further information on the State

science, or archival administration.
Archives and Records Management Specialist II: In addition to the degree

must have two years of professional experience in which the majority of duties
involve one or more archival or records management functions. (see the website
