I go underground

Simmons' Clerk of the Works Al Saporetti was kind enough to escort me on a personal tour of the underground construction. Thanks to Senior Veep Lisa Chapnick for putting the steps in motion after I complained about not being able to update my construction site with anything new and interesting. If you want to see the rest of the photos, they are on flickr, where you can view them as a slideshow, or one at a time to see all the captions.

Actually, last PPT from me is in VISTA. Woo hoo!

415 - Handouts

I added two handouts to VISTA, in the same place where the PowerPoints are. One is a highly compressed quick guide to the MARC codes. The other contains instructions for creating a record in OCLC. I will be using both in class tomorrow.

415 - Assignment 5

Last - YAY! - assignment is available in VISTA

Scriblio meeting

Great ASIS&T meeting with Casey Bisson and his associate (whose name I never caught), talking about using Scriblio, a WordPress enabled OPAC. Casey has been blogging about (and winning awards for) his work at Maison Bisson for a while now - it was a treat to see him in person, and very inspiring. You can see Scriblio in action at Plymouth State's Lamson Library, and also at a small public library, Cook Memorial Library, in Tamworth, NH.

415 - Bio Quiz

I have put the "scavenger hunt" into VISTA. It is due on the very last day of class, and you can have some fun with it (giving me my yucks for the weekend). I will be sending you brief comments on the biographies next, and will then grade Assignment 3 (LCSH). There is light at the end of the tunnel.

419 - mea culpa

I have caused confusion over the due date for the final report. I am told that I implied that the final report was due on the penultimate day of class. Wrong - it's due on the last day, but before the class, not the usual 9pm. I need to start final grading that afternoon. Sorry for the miscommunication.

Library Thing

Library Thing has developed Library Thing for Libraries, a tie-in between LT and the OPAC. If you work at a forward-looking library, send this notice to your director - LT is looking for public library participants. Go Tim!

419 - Sign up

Don't forget to sign up for a 20-minute time slot during next week's class, or to make some other 20-minute appointment with me before or on April 12. The sign-up is in VISTA, linked from the main page. I have corrected the errors on the course outline and in VISTA that implied that the consulting day would be April 19. It's not. It's April 12. Next class. Assignment 4 is due on April 19.

Please bring as much evidence of your project as you can to the consulting, and if you have specific questions, have them ready. I will want to talk about your project, your evaluation, and the day on which (and the format in which) you would like to present.
