SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to manage the records management program, including appraisal, retention, preservation, storage and destruction of the organizational records of The Mother Church and its activities. This work includes managing staff and budget and overseeing the development, monitoring, maintenance and review of records management policies and practices, including files plans and retention schedules.
The Manager oversees the preservation and storage of documents, information, artifacts and other items of historical value in the organizations physical and digital repositories; oversees the management of the vital records program; and assists staff in providing guidance in records management to active and disbanding branch Churches of Christ, Scientist, and Christian Science students associations.
The Manager provides advice and administrative support to the Records Management Committee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manages records management policies, practices and procedures for the organization.
Manages the budget for the records management program.
Manages the staff of the Office of Records Management (ORM) and advises in proper management, transfer and retention of the organizations records.
Oversees the development, implementation, monitoring and review of records management policies, procedures and practices for departments, including records retention and destruction schedules.
Provides administrative support to the Records Management Committee.
Oversees decision-making processes regarding the designation and maintenance of the vital records program.
2. Oversees the Churchs Curatorial/Registrar program including the development, implementation, monitoring and review of practices and procedures, e.g. inventories of artifacts and other items; and the donation of items and other records from individuals, branch Churches of Christ, Scientist, and Christian Science students associations.
3. Oversees the management, including preservation and storage, of documents, information and items maintained in repositories. Ensures appropriate access and control of these records, ensuring they are used in a manner that is consistent with their preservation, the protection of confidentiality, and the observance of other legal and institutional restrictions. (Information is retained in a variety of formats: paper, microforms, electronic, etc. Artifacts such as furniture and art objects are also retained.)
4. Assists The Mary Baker Eddy Library with records management, including the retrieval of records in organizational archives for patron requests, in accordance with policies set by The Christian Science Board of Directors.

Regular Contacts
Employees throughout the Christian Science Plaza, including the Board of Directors and Senior management. Also with Church members, the general public, and records management and archives professionals.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience
Masters degree in library science or its equivalent in work experience of which at least 5-10 years is required or strong project management experience. Broad management skills including experience in the supervision of staff and managing budgets required. Substantial experience in the records management field is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills
The Manager should have solid communication skills (written, oral and technological); people skills; and a desire to understand systems sufficiently for communicating records management issues and technology needs to staff including senior management.
Technology Skills
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) skills are required. Records management software or specialized database experience a plus.
Work Environment
The position regularly works in an office environment as well as overseeing the operations of a Records Center, Vital Records storage, and onsite records storage which may require the incumbent to be physically active and able to lift 30-40 lb. boxes, climb stairs and ladders, and, to some extent, handle the physical requirements of moving materials within repository areas.
Christian Science Information
Good working knowledge of the history of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and of its founder, Mary Baker Eddy is highly desirable but not required. Membership in The Mother Church is preferred.
