Volunteers, Farragut School, Boston, MA

By , June 13, 2011 10:13 am

The Farragut school is looking for volunteers over the summer to assist in library closure (the school will not be open next year). There are a series of dates listed below when help will be needed:

June 16 & 17
June 23 & 24

Volunteers are welcome help out for as long as they wish from 9:00-3:00.

If you are interested, please contact Farragut Library Aid Sarah Moore at sarahammoore@gmail.com.

Please read on for more information about what you would be doing while volunteering at the Farragut Library:

The following is exactly what will be happening on those days:
-Packing the books by genre and author/Dewey
-Verifying that all books are in the inventory as they are packed.
-Repairing any books that need to be repaired and can be repaired. (If someone has book repair skills, please let me know!)
—If books are deemed irreparable or too old, they will either be thrown away or donated to teachers/possibly students or charity. In this case, all mentions of Farragut library within the book must be blacked out wtih a Sharpie.
-Moving shelves to obtain any books that have fallen behind them
-If we have time, tearing down library displays (there aren’t many)

Some important safety information for volunteers:
1. There may be a lot of bending over and heavy lifting involved. If a volunteer is unable to do this, please tell them to let me know so I don’t ask them to do things that may be hazards to their health! I am happy to accommodate as much as possible.
2. The school is not air conditioned and we share the space with the computer lab, which will be having classes during these days. Because of this, it often gets very hot in the library by the afternoon, even with the windows open. Volunteers need to keep this in mind when choosing clothes. Bringing water is a great idea (though we have a water fountain nearby).
