Supervisory Librarian, Veterans Affairs New England Health Care System

The Supervisory Librarian serves as the Coordinator of Library Services for the VA New England Health Care System (VANEHS) which is affiliated with twenty New England area medical, nursing, pharmacy, and allied health services schools. The incumbent serves as Library/Knowledge Manager directing, supervising and managing the operational and strategic development of the Library/Knowledge Service within the eight VANEHS facilities. The Library/Knowledge Service informs evidence-based patient care by assisting all VANEHS health care professionals and allied professions to effectively and successfully access evidence-based healthcare resources with skill and competence. This department develops and supports the education, training and continuing professional development of all health care personnel employed by the VA New England Healthcare System organization.

Duties include but are not limited to: Develop and maintain knowledge-based systems and sources; collaborate with the VA Library Network Office (LNO) to continuously improve health care decision making by the delivery of information to users at the point of need and care; oversee the daily operation of the units; ensure that agency policies and priorities are followed; develop performance standards; evaluate work performance of subordinates; produce, select and/or organize decision support related knowledge-based content on the organization’s intranet and internet web pages. The incumbent will also develop effective and efficient instruction interventions (one on one, small group, webinars, embedded podcasts, video instructional programs, etc.) in information literacy and web-based resources appropriate to users’ needs including but not limited to: nursing, house staffs, students, clinicians, and management as well as recruit, select, train and manage a team of Librarians or Information Specialists.
