Position Summary:
The librarian/archivist intern will work with librarians on the arrangement and description of selected unique collections of papers and record groups such as 19th century artists’ manuscripts. The intern will assist in developing descriptive tools and systems that provide both control of and access to collections, and create discovery options such as finding aids and collection guides for the materials. The intern will also take part on a team to begin digitizing and storing selected materials.
• The intern will be evaluated by the Library Director at the completion of the internship. Assessment will be based on the position summary and any requirements of the intern’s affiliation.

Areas of Support:
• Assess Crystal Bridges’ manuscripts and archives and create a descriptive spreadsheet of the holdings; grouping based on archival standards of provenance and original order.
• Prioritize collections to be described based on scholarly need.
• Develop descriptive finding aids and collection guides for priority collections.
• Research online availability of priority collections and prioritize collections to be digitized.
• Digitize and properly store identified priority materials.

Position Requirements:
• MLS student or graduate, or graduate/student of related program.
• Archival courses or experience working with archives or special collections.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Commitment to contributing to an invigorating museum team and enhancing library services through a solid work ethic.
• Digital experience.

• Physical demands: In the work environment described below, position requires work at a desk and utilizing a computer and a telephone for prolonged periods of time and good eye/hand coordination, bending and stretching for filing, and physical stamina to life a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of at least three feet for art materials storage and preparation and as appropriate for the demands of the division office. Visual acuity to review written materials is required for this job.
• Work environment: Work will be performed in an office environment, museum spaces, and in communities served. The noise level in the Museum work environment is usually low to moderate.
