Quinnipiac University invites applications for a University Librarian. The primary role of the University Librarian is to provide institutional leadership for a university library system that is comprised of undergraduate, graduate, health professions, and law libraries. This leadership role includes development of programs, collections, facilities, and staff to serve education, research and scholarship needs. The University Librarian manages the first three libraries and provides institutional support for the Law Library, whose director reports to the dean of the School of Law.

Key responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
1. Creates an inspirational library learning culture as the University transforms to an institution of national prominence
2. Facilitates the use of University library resources and encourages scholarly activity by implementing leading edge technologies.
3. Plays an active role in the design of the North Haven campus, home to the new Frank H. Netter Jr. School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, School of Nursing, School of Education, and other planned graduate programs.
4. Develops a mission for the undergraduate, graduate and health professions libraries that promotes the University’s strategic plans and maintains a cooperative working relationship with the Law Library.
5. Develops library policies related to copyright and determines institutional involvement with regional and national consortia.
6. Serves as a catalyst for change by engaging and collaborating with faculty to expand or advance library services and resources.
7. Develops and implements plans for deselection and acquisition of library materials in tangible and digital formats.
8. Provides access to library collections, university scholarship, and resources on the external university web site; develops the library portal to educate and inform the University community.
9. Identifies and utilizes emerging technologies to provide a state of the art library.

Operational Leadership:
1. Analyzes, creates and coordinates departmental budget.
2. Manages, leads and develops a staff of 12 full-time librarians, 6 part-time librarians, and 6 clerical and technical staff, as well as student work-study employees.
3. Maintains 24/7 operations on Mt Carmel campus as well as extended hours on North Haven campus.
4. Solicits faculty and student input and recommendations in the selection of materials, databases and library applications.
5. Maintains and preserves rare book collections, special collections, historical archives, and other valued University artifacts.
6. Assumes a leadership role to cultivate a “learning commons” culture and uses metrics to determine University patron satisfaction with library services.

External Representation:
1. Establish public relation initiatives to increase public awareness and support of library programs and services.
2. Represents the university by membership in and participation at regional and national associations, conferences and seminars.

Required Qualifications:
1. An advanced degree in Library/Information Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.
2. Minimum of 10 years of significant higher education experience, ideally with a university with both medical and law schools.
3. A record of achievement in managing a complex library environment which includes strong financial, technological and personnel management skills.
4. An ability to embrace change and explore creative state of the art library technologies.
5. Record of leadership positions and active participation in professional organizations of national prominence.
