Annual Award for the Best Libri Student Paper 2012

Since 1950, through 62 volumes, Libri: International Journal of Libraries and Information Services has been a leader among scholarly journals in the international library world. As part of its strategy to remain one of the premier library journals and to encourage new writers, Libri is issuing a call for “Best Student Paper of 2012.” This competition supports Libri’s goal of publishing the best articles from the next generation of library and information science professionals.
We are proud once again to recognize the very best article with his special award.
Students at all levels* are invited to submit single-authored articles with clarity and authority.
There is no stated theme. Research papers should address one of the significant issues facing today’s librarians and information professionals. Case studies, best practices and pure research papers are all welcome.

* Length: approx. 5,000-7,000 words
* Language: English
* Deadline: June 30, 2012
* Papers should have been written not earlier than January 1, 2011.

The best paper will be selected by an independent panel consisting of selected members of the Editorial Board, the Advisory Board and other international experts.

Submissions will be judged on the basis of
* originality of thought and observation
* depth of research and scholarship
* topicality of problems addressed
* the international readership of the journal

The article will be published in the 2012:4 issue and will be available under open access on http://www.degruyter.com/view/j/libr.2012.62.issue-1/issue-files/libr.2012.62.issue-1.xml

The author of the winning article will be honoured with an award of 500.00 EUR and with a complimentary subscription to Libri for 2013. If the quality of competition warrants some papers may be designated as honourable mention and the authors will receive complementary subscriptions to Libri for 2013. The normal provision to the author of e-prints and one complete issue applies to all winners.

* the name of the institution where the student is or was enrolled
* the dates when the student is or was enrolled
* the date when the paper was written and the course for which it was prepared

* Exception: Senior information scholars returning to school for additional degrees outside the field of library and information science are not eligible for this award.

NEASIS&T Student Travel Award

STUDENT TRAVEL AWARD AVAILABLE (Deadline: Monday, April 9, 2012)

*The American Society for Information Science & Technology, New England Chapter (NEASIS&T) is pleased to announce the availability of one award of up to $1000 to reimburse expenses for attendance at the ASIS&T 75th Annual Meeting (October 26-31, 2012, Baltimore, MD). Applications must be received by Monday, April 9. The winner(s) will be notified by Monday, April 23.

One award for the best essay will be offered to student members of ASIS&T* in the New England, Upstate New York or Eastern Canada regions. Students must be enrolled in an information science** master’s or doctoral program. In order to be reimbursed, the award winner will submit receipts substantiating travel and conference related expenses, such as costs for registration, airfare, food, and lodging.

The award winner will also be expected to meet with a NEASIS&T representative at the conference.

Submit an essay that addresses the following questions in specific detail:
* Why do you wish to attend the ASIS&T Annual Meeting?
* How do you believe you will be able to use the conference experience to further your career?
* How might NEASIS&T or ASIS&T benefit if you receive the award?

Essay criteria:
* Essay must be written in English.
* Essay may not exceed 500 words or two double spaced pages.
* Student must be sole author.

The coversheet should include the following information:
* Applicant’s name
* Address
* Phone number / E-mail address
* School affiliation / information science program / Student ID number
* Proof of ASIS&T membership (e.g. ASIS&T member number, copy of email receipt of payment, or photocopy of check canceled by ASIS&T Headquarters)

The ASIS&T Annual meeting is one of the most highly regarded meetings in the information science field. It covers the breadth of activities and endeavors of the information community with technical sessions addressing specialties of the information professional. The 2012 Annual Meeting, “Information, Interaction, Innovation: Celebrating the Past, Constructing the Present, and Creating the Future” takes place October 26-31, 2012 in Baltimore, Maryland.

DGI Student-to-Conference Competition

Would you like to win a student registration to attend the SLA Annual Conference in Chicago? Just submit a brief blog entry (250-500 words) to be posted on the DGI blog, and you will be entered into a random drawing for a paid registration.

You are free to write on a topic of your choice, relevant to government information. Ideas for possible topics may include:

Award to attend the SLA Annual Conference in
Chicago, IL, 15 -18 July, 2012

SPIE Digital Library is sponsoring for library school students the award of a $1200 travel stipend toward payment of expenses incurred while attending the annual Special Libraries Association conference in Chicago, Illinois, July 15-18, 2012. SPIE Digital Library is the world’s largest collection of optics and photonics applied research.

The SPIE Digital Library Student Travel Stipend Award will be given to the qualified student who submits an essay of three or less double spaced typed pages that is judged to be the best essay submitted describing the following scenario:
“Emerging trends in science librarianship”

Qualifications for Entering Award Competition:

Applicants must be student members of the Special Libraries Association at the time of award submission.

Part of the award will be a one year student membership to the SLA Engineering Division. The essay winner must be a student member of the SLA Engineering Division at the time of acceptance of the award.

Last year, the winning essay was posted in the SciTech News Bulletin.

Special Instructions:
1. Give your full name, address, telephone number, e mail address, and a statement, on one page, of your qualifications, as given above, for entering the award competition. Include the name of your library school.
2. Type your full name (without any additional personal information) at the top of each essay page. Double space the typing on all pages.
