Yale University Library Seeks Applications and Nominations for Digital Archivist

The Digital Archivist ensures effective appraisal, acquisition, arrangement, description, preservation, and service of born-digital collections held by the Beinecke Library. Reporting to the Head of the Manuscript Unit, with a dotted line to the Head of Technology and Digital Assets, this position closely supports staff throughout the Beinecke in their work to collect, manage, and make available digital materials. The Digital Archivist engages with emerging research and professional developments relevant to digital curation, and collaborates with other departments in the Yale University Library to develop and sustain a program for stewardship of born-digital material.

BOMB Magazine, a 31-year-old nonprofit art and culture publication, is seeking highly motivated, detail-oriented interns to assist with its website expansion, archive completion, and social media outreach. Join a fun, creative group of artists, writers, musicians, and filmmakers committed to celebrating BOMB’s print legacy. Interns will use a full range of editorial talents, including copy writing, fact checking, and proofreading, while exercising skills specific to library science implementing our site’s new index and taxonomy. Attention to detail and ability to follow project guidelines area a must. The ideal candidates will be able to meet deadlines and work independently but function as a team when needed. All interns will get to write original posts for the blog and participate in strategic social media initiatives. On the job training of software and web coding available.

Internships require a three-to-four-day-week minimum commitment. Hours are from 10:30 AM–6:00PM.

BOMB Magazine is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and although there is no stipend available, as an intern at BOMB, you will have the opportunity to write for the magazine’s blog and contribute to other projects as needed, as well as help out at launch events, art fairs, literary readings, and auctions.

Digital Archives Project Position, Brown University, Providence, RI

The Institute for Community Health Promotion at Brown University has been a leading pioneer in the creation and distribution of tailored video health interventions. With over a decade of past video projects archived, we are seeking part-time help this summer from a library sciences student or professional in migrating our current media archive to a metadata-driven searchable database.

We are looking for someone who would be able to provide us recommendations for the best hardware/software solution as well as help with the creation and migration of this system. You should…

- be proficient with Mac OS environments (a familiarity with Final Cut Pro and Adobe Creative Suite file architectures would be extremely helpful)
- be available this summer during normal business hours (8:30 AM-5 PM)
- able to interact and collaborate in an academic research environment with potentially sensitive data
- work independently with limited supervision

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is seeking to appoint a Digital Archivist for a one-year contractual position. The Digital Archivist position is part of a team of archivists and records managers that strive to deliver a world-class archives and records management program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Archives and Records IT Advisor, the Digital Archivist manages systems supporting all formats of archival content. This role includes development and implementation of specific components to ensure the authenticity, reliability, and current as well as long-term accessibility to both its born-digital and digitized archives. Work is accomplished through close collaboration with the Archives Development Team.

Specific responsibilities include:
Manage the Archives Management System (based on Adlib Archives software), which includes coordinating support and enhancements for the archival descriptions catalog, accession and
appraisal database, declassification database, reference request database, and box management with barcoding and on and offsite storage. Coordinate maintenance and enhancements with
Archives Systems vendor and with IMF IT contacts.
· Manage the Public Web Archives solution (internally and externally), including the monthly updates, user support and enhancements.
· Provide business analysis support for Archives related projects including requirements gathering, workflow design, and optimized solutions, with the goal of improving the efficiency of the ARM
staff and making the collections more readily accessible to the researchers.
· Develop or recommend and implement standards, procedures and workflows with regard to conversion and reformatting, storage and maintenance, methods of access and dissemination, and
quality control.
· Manage all digital media, including from analog to digital. Provide for tracking and storage of media. Provide assessment of format and media stability as required and implement optimum storage
solutions going forward.
· Develop and manage a long-term preservation program for digital archival records (both digitized and born-digital) based on archival standards, work done to date at the IMF, and ongoing
developments in the field. The process includes managing source, preservation and access copies, addressing file formats as well as media types, and ensuring access to objects through the
Archives Management System.
· Improve delivery of information in the IMF Archives (i.e., develop, maintain, and expand the Archives’ website and web-based resources and tools). Write/edit website content using SharePoint.
· Participate in developing the strategy for evaluation and migration or deletion of older content, through a proof of concept using automated categorization tools to identify content with potential
enduring value in various systems such as Document Management System, Autonomy Email Archive, and network file shares. Tasks include development of procedures to transfer archival digital
objects from these repositories as well as the eRecords system to the Archives.
· Research current options for web archiving, particularly for SharePoint sites, as part of the digital archives.
· Plan for and oversee digitization of archival materials based on priority as funding is available.
· Develop user and system documentation as well as test scripts for Archives applications according to IMF IT guidelines. Provide testing of applications as needed for upgrades.
· General duties may include: reporting, maintaining project files and assisting with tasks as assigned on systems related efforts

The Conflict Records Research Center (CRRC) is conducting a search for someone with an interest in the Middle East/Central Asia and/or security studies who can serve as an IT/digital archive expert and local network administrator for our new center. The CRRC was established to fulfill the Secretary of Defense’s intent to enable research into captured records from Iraq and Afghanistan with “complete openness and rigid adherence to academic freedom and integrity.” The CRRC’s mission is to facilitate the use of captured records (documents, audio and video) that have national security impact to support research, both within and outside the government.
