The Knowledge Services Specialist develops and provides library and scientific/medical information services to colleagues in support of Cubist products. This is a service oriented position with a focus on rapidly identifying and solving problems for internal customers across the organization.
Specific responsibilities:
- Maintain and refine an integrated set of resources that connect Cubist end-users to the medical/scientific literature.
- Assess, maintain and manage publication aggregator accounts and corporate journal subscriptions. Make decisions/recommendations on spending in this area.
- Maintain and expand the eLibrary, a digital document repository and retrieval system for scientific articles and posters.
- Fulfill document delivery requests.
- Formulate search strategies and conduct literature searches using various literature search databases.
- Create and distribute literature search notification alerts to internal stakeholders.
- Determine copyright permissions based on the annual business license maintained with the Copyright Compliance Center (CCC) and specific publisher license agreements. Promote a culture of copyright compliance.
- Maintain department’s SharePoint site.
- Train employees on Cubist information resources including literature processes.
- Conduct ongoing outreach to other functional groups to determine needs for additional knowledge services and to promote the sharing of information across the organization.
- Research, assess and implement new technologies in collaboration with Information and Business Solutions to develop and promote a knowledge culture within the company.
THIS IS A FULL TIME CONTRACT POSITION.
Required Skills:
- Education: Master of Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited library school; Undergraduate degree in a health science discipline or equivalent experience preferred.
- Familiarity with a variety of Library/Health Science Services concepts, practices, and procedures within the Pharmaceutical Industry.
- Proficiency with standard software including Microsoft Office and Endnote.
- Proficiency with literature databases such as Embase and PubMed.
- Strong service orientation and demonstrated ability to solve customers’ problems and improve processes.
- Experience with maintaining electronic subscriptions and link resolvers.
- Html coding and development of websites.
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks within a team environment, relying on extensive experience and independent judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Self motivation and reliability.
Required Experience:
- 2-5 years experience delivering integrated information support in an academic or life science organization (industry preferred).

Job Title: Metadata / Digitization Assistant
MIT Lincoln Laboratory is searching for a Metadata / Digitization Assistant. This is a six month subcontractor assignment with the possibility of a longer term engagement.
MIT Lincoln Laboratory has pioneered in advanced electronics since its origin in 1951 as a Federally Funded Research and Development Center of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This person will help eliminate backlog of materials in various formats. As part of the project the incumbent will work independently and as a member of a team to provide intellectual access to material that is in the ArchivesÂ’ backlog, which consists of material on advanced technology to problems of national security. Materials relate to the LaboratoryÂ’s mission areas: space control, air and missile defense technology, communication and information technology, IRS systems and technology, advanced electronics technology, homeland protection, and air traffic control. We are looking for an energetic person to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate student to gain hands-on experience and learn more about metadata, content management systems, and digitization projects.
Responsibilities:
Describe Digital Collections Stored in a Laboratory Content Management System:
- Using bibliographic description, Laboratory specific taxonomies, and general subject analysis
This position will also require the incumbent to Digitize Laboratory Documents (reports, briefings, etc.) by:
- Following internal standards and security processes
- Assisting in the maintenance of scanning hardware and software
Support and participate in other related work as assigned
Qualifications:
- A B.A. / B.S. is required. An undergraduate degree in physical sciences or engineering is preferred
- Enrolled in an ALA-accredited Masters’ in Library Science program
- Proficient with standard MS Office applications
- Experience or working knowledge of cataloguing
- Willing to learn and/or develop skills in local cataloging rules and practices
- Able to adapt to change as well as follow directions from others
- Strong oral and written communications and interpersonal skills
- Able to pay close attention to detail
- Able to manage deadlines and meet goals
- Some experience in scanning, scanning software, hardware and applications
- Must be able to obtain DoD Security Clearance (normal procedures, see below)
- SECURITY: Personnel working at the Laboratory are required to have a DoD Security Clearance to the SECRET level. In some instances personnel cleared CONFIDENTIAL may work at the Laboratory pending the issuance of further clearance. Proposals should indicate the clearance status of each person proposed. All personnel are required to have United States Citizenship.
