SCOPE OF WORK: Responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating a comprehensive, state of the art program of library services. Oversees information literacy efforts. Performs administrative, supervisory and instructional duties to ensure learning resource needs of MCC students and faculty; supervises library personnel and coordinates programming to collaborate with the community at large. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs at Manchester Community College.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Provides vision and strategic direction for library services consistent with the College’s mission and vision.
• Plan and supervise outreach to the students, faculty and staff coordinate and promote comprehensive learning resource support for all curricula areas of the college.
• Assures that the library’s materials, programs, and services meet the evolving needs of the community it serves. Develop new or revise systems, procedures and workflow based on the annual assessment of the effectiveness of library services and resources.
• Anticipates the evolution of academic programming and ensures appropriate library resources.
• Assures flexible and equitable access to physical and virtual collections of resources that support meet the diverse needs of all learners.
• Engage faculty to assist in developing programs and resources appropriate to the college
and local communities; supervise outreach to promote these programs and resources.
• Participate in the appropriate library consortia to enhance services and resources. Develops contacts, contracts and agreements with external agencies to provide access to externally available databases, learning resources and bibliographical services.
• Oversees the integration of current technologies in all library services and resources.
• Develops and supervises the budget to ensure consistency with the library’s strategic plan and annual assessment activities.
• Maintains and enhances the library website.
• Stays current with new professional techniques and current trends in library services and resources.
• Seeks additional funding sources for library services and resources through grants, donations, etc.
• Supervises library professional and student staff.
• Conducts formal and informal instruction in the area of research format and research procedures.
• Integrates American Library Association standards wherever possible.
• Participates in various staff development activities and professional organizations; attends conferences and workshops in order to remain current within the profession.
• Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major study in Library Science, from an ALA accredited institution, including coursework in Educational Media and Technology. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Four years’ experience in professional library work in a higher education institution.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of modern library organization, procedure, policy, aims and services. Knowledge of up-to-date applications of information technology. Skill in developing and monitoring library automation and library information systems. Ability to coordinate workflow within the library, and to train and supervise library staff. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with subordinates, professional and non-professional employees as well as with the student body. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college’s appointing authority.

The Associate Director – Library Services develops and implements
Society long-range and short-term library system plans, including an
intranet resource to provide online access to a computerized catalog,
databases, specialized resources, and outside web sites.

Applicants must have a master’s degree in library science from an
accredited college or university or equivalent experience. Desirable
qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in a
scientific discipline, knowledge of zoology, taxonomy, life sciences,
medicine, conservation, and or ecology as well as a broad grasp of
library functions and operations.

Essential job functions of this position include evaluating, selecting,
and overseeing the computerized library system, maintaining the SDZ
Global archives, developing, administering, and monitoring assigned
budgets. Must be able to communicate effectively, both oral and written.
Applicant must be able to move light to moderately heavy materials

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Associate Director-Library Services performs all job assignments

Discover the Possibilities—as the next director of the Vigo County Public Library! The Library Board of Trustees seeks a new leader to help continue and enhance the Library’s successful role as the County’s creative, cultural, and collaborative connection. The Board wants a director who will work strategically with local organizations and agencies and be responsive to the needs and concerns of staff, customers and the community. Vigo County Public Library is a separate taxing authority with a tax rate exclusively dedicated to public library services. Governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees, the Library staff of 78 (59 full-time and 19 part-time), serve the 107,848 citizens in Vigo County with a budget of $6.97 million. The Library consists of the Main Library (69,600 sq. ft.) in downtown Terre Haute, a single branch facility (West Terre Haute) and active Outreach and Community Services programs. The challenge for the next Director will be to move forward on the Library’s new strategic plan (currently under development) leveraging strong community relationships and partnerships while continuing to provide the outstanding levels of service and programs for the community.

Responsibilities. The Director reports to a seven-member Library Board of Trustees and works with the Board, staff, and major stakeholders to establish the strategic vision for the Library aligning the Library’s mission, goals and objectives with the community’s needs and priorities. This is complex executive work planning, directing, managing and overseeing the activities and operations of the library, coordinating services and activities with the Board of Library Trustees, local government, academic institutions, and other agencies, ensuring local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations applicable to Indiana libraries and the by-laws, policies, and directives of the Library Board are being met. Qualifications. ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science; the ability to obtain and retain an Indiana Librarian Certificate 1; and a minimum of six years of professional experience including a minimum of three years of supervisory and/or management experience. Essential attributes and skills include: vision, creativity, energy and enthusiasm; superior written and oral communications skills; demonstrated success in effectively promoting library services to the community; political acumen; collaborative and consensus-building skills; experience in recruiting, mentoring, evaluating and retaining an excellent staff; and a thorough knowledge of current trends and “best practices” for library service. The Town of Sutton seeks an innovative and energetic library director to direct and manage all operations and activities of the Sutton Free Public Library.  Our busy library is overseen by a three person Board of Trustees. The library holds 29,443 items, has a wireless network and is a member of the CWMARS library consortium.  The director works 35 hrs/wk, including some evenings and weekend hours and their duties include overseeing the daily running of the library, all programs and services and is responsible for long-range planning, policy recommendations, adult collection development, filing all necessary local and state reports and representing the Sutton Library at all CWMARS network directors’ meetings.  The Director supervises six library staff members, coordinates adult programming, supports all teen and childrens’ programs and endeavors to obtain grant funding. On-going staff development, community relationship building and public library advocacy are required aspects of this position.  The director works with the Board of Trustees, as well as the Town Manager.

Qualifications:
The applicant should possess practical expertise in personnel administration, budget management, customer services skills and computer and network troubleshooting. The ability to communicate effectively, motivate and develop staff and community relationships is essential. Library building experience is a plus. The preferred candidate will have five years of supervisory experience with library operations and possess a Masters in Library Science from an accredited ALA program.   Will consider applicants who have experience that are currently working on obtaining a Masters in Library Science.

Environmental and economics consulting firm seeks a Director of Library Services to direct management of internal content and perform cataloguing, literature searches, topic tracking (Web 2.0), and document retrieval supporting litigation and client focused projects. Candidates should have:

  1. Strong electronic content/knowledge management experience in addition to general skills needed in special libraries.
  2. Experience with organizing the electronic flow of incoming materials, including print, digital, and oversized documents.
  3. Research experience using tools such as LexisNexis, ISI Web of Knowledge, Pacer, as well as using traditional library, government agency, municipal records, or general web resources.

Research will include environmental topics ranging from general topics such as: PCBs, hazardous waste, MGPs, etc., or more specific searches such as court decisions or digital articles.
Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Library and Information Sciences or equivalent;
  • Organizing and managing information management system;
  • Literature research (particularly the ability to understand the needs defined by technical experts);
  • Basic cataloging;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proven ability to work well independently and collaboratively;
  • At least 5 years experience with private or special library and information management.

Familiarity with environmental engineering and knowledge of the hard sciences will be useful.

The Trustees of the Groton Public Library (GPL) invite qualified candidates to apply for the position of Director of the GPL.   The GPL is a well-utilized and well-supported library serving a community of 10,000.    Our library was greatly expanded in 1999 and comprises 17,400 square feet.  The library’s collection is currently 81,000 items with an annual circulation of 240,000.   The GPL employs 12.5 FTE as well as 48 volunteers.   In the last year, we offered 400 programs to children, young adults, and adults with total attendance of 8,900.    In the last several years, our summer reading program attracted between 800 and 900 participants.  For more information about Groton and the library see: www.townofgroton.org and www.gpl.org.
