ARMA International Educational Foundation (AIEF) 2013 Graduate Level
Scholarship

The ARMA International Educational Foundation (AIEF) has established three scholarship programs to encourage development of the international records and information management community with an appropriately educated records and information management workforce.

GRADUATE LEVEL SCHOLARSHIPS

ARMA INTERNATIONAL EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Six scholarships of $3000 are awarded annually, in the summer, to a full-time students entering the second year of a graduate records and information management program or equivalent library science or archival studies program which contains a significant number of records management and information courses at a recognized university or a college leading to a Masters or Doctorate degree or equivalent.

LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

One scholarship of $3,000 is awarded in the summer of 2013 to a full-time student entering the second year of a graduate records and information management program or equivalent library science or archival studies program which contains a significant number of records management and information courses at a recognized university or a college leading to a Masters or Doctorate degree or equivalent. Funding for this award is provided by leaders of ARMA International.

RITA HOLT EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

One scholarship of $3,000 will be awarded in 2013 to a full-time student entering the second year of a graduate records and information management program or equivalent library science or archival studies program which contains a significant number of records management and information courses at a recognized university or college leading to a Master’s or Doctorate degree or equivalent. Funding for this award is provided by the Greater Washington DC Chapter of ARMA International in recognition of Rita Holt, a pioneer in the field who inspired many to become leaders in the profession through education.

Eligibility and Application Process

Application Requirements:

1. Completed application form.
2. Provide evidence of the intention to continue with the second year of such a program
3. Submit an outline of the courses and related papers completed in the first year
4. Submit evidence of being a member in good standing of ARMA International or another nationally or internationally recognized information management association
5. Provide evidence of having attained a grade average of 80% or a B average or higher in the first year of their graduate degree program as indicated by the submission of an official transcript
6. Prepare a 1000 or more word research essay which thoroughly explores an aspect of records and information management studies. If deemed appropriate by the AIEF, further agrees to allow the AIEF to publish the essay
7. Agree to the terms and conditions of the Scholarship
8. Submit one hard copy of a letter of application, the documentation indicated above and three letters of reference from individuals able to comment on the applicant’s academic performance, involvement or interest in the records and information management community and leadership abilities
9. Applications are due by June 30, 2013 and are to be submitted to:

MSLA-SIG Scholarship, American Association of School Librarians (AASL)’s 16th National Conference and Exhibition: “Rising to the Challenge,” Hartford CT November 14 – 17, 2013.

Interested in your professional development?

Apply for the MSLA-SIG Scholarship to attend AASL’s 16th National Conference and Exhibition: “Rising to the Challenge” in Hartford, CT
November 14 – 17, 2013.

Scholarship includes: Free student member admission for two students, free three night hotel stay, and travel expenses*.

In order to receive the scholarship, you must turn in an application answering the following questions:

1. What makes you the right candidate for this scholarship?
2. How do you believe you will be able to use the conference experience to further your career?
3. How would you give back to MSLA-SIG if you were to attend?

If you are chosen to receive this scholarship, you will be one of the presenters at the MSLA-SIG conference next year. You will be asked to present on what you learned and/or what it was like to attend a national professional conference.

*Students will be responsible for payment of anything additional, such as food.

**Student admission is pending a current ALA and AASL membership. If the recipient of the scholarship does not currently have this membership, they will be required to purchase membership to the organization.

***Travel is going to be covered through LISSA’s reimbursement program. Each semester, LISSA reimburses students up to $300 for attendance at professional conferences. The recipients will be responsible for paying for their own travel cost and then filling out a reimbursement form. If the travel cost is more than $300, the recipients will be responsible for paying the balance.

****Since travel is covered through LISSA’s reimbursement program, students are only eligible for this award if they will be a current student in the fall 2013 semester. If a student is graduating before fall 2013 and would like to apply, they are only eligible if they are willing to pay for their own travel. If this is the case, the student must indicate this on their application.

*****As a recipient of this generous award, the recipients are expected to attend all conference events.

***** Students who receive this award will be expected to present at the Simmons MSLA-SIG Conference.

Roger K. Summit Scholarship

The Roger K. Summit Scholarship, awarded annually by ProQuest, was established to honor Dr. Roger K. Summit, the founder of Dialog, a ProQuest business, for his outstanding contributions to the field of information science.

The scholarship is open to all LIS students worldwide. The award is the equivalent of US $5,000 and is presented at the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Annual Conference.

Applicants must be students who are currently enrolled in an accredited library or information science program. The scholarship recipient, who must have demonstrated outstanding interest or performance in electronic information services, is selected based upon the following criteria:

* Academic achievement
* Demonstrated interest in electronic information services, based on course work, research, and experience
* Faculty recommendations

2013 Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) Scholarship Program

Brenda S. Banks 2013 Educational Workshop Scholarship

Starting in 2008, the Society of Georgia Archivists will each year award a scholarship for attendance at the SGA-sponsored Spring/Summer Workshop. Past SGA workshops have addressed a variety of themes and issues faced by archivists and archival institutions, including electronic records, exhibits, donor relations, digital collections, and funding. The purpose of the Spring/Summer Workshop and the workshop scholarship is to enhance archival education.

The registration fee for the successful scholarship applicant will be waived by the Society of Georgia Archivists. Recipients will be responsible for any travel fees associated with attending the workshop. Please note that the scholarship winner is responsible for submitting their workshop registration form by the registration deadline. After the workshop, the recipient will submit a brief article on the experience for use in the SGA Newsletter.

Scholarship, Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials

The SALALM Scholarship has been established to encourage professional and leadership development in Latin American and Caribbean Studies academic librarianship. To be awarded biannually commencing in December 2011, the $1000 is for a master’s candidate in an archival studies or ALA-accredited library or information studies program.

Since its founding in 1956, the Seminar on the Acquisition of Latin American Library Materials, or SALALM, has provided the only national and international forum focused on Latin American studies research librarianship, library collections and services. The SALALM Scholarship award will include a one-year membership in the organization.

Who Should Apply:
Applicants able to demonstrate a strong interest in Latin America, the Caribbean or their diaspora, and who have career aspirations involving service to academic users seeking information about, or researching topics involving the Latin American or Caribbean region, are urged to apply.

Interest may be demonstrated through previous work, internships, undergraduate or graduate-level study, involvement through volunteer programs with governmental, non- governmental or private sector organizations, and research and publication on topics relevant to the area. Competency in one of the area’s major languages is highly important.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be master’s degree candidates in ALA- accredited programs in library and information science or in archival studies (with equivalent accreditation where applicable) in the United States or Canada. Applicants must have successfully completed at least one quarter or semester of study and recipients must be enrolled students at the time the award is made.

Selection Criteria:

* Knowledge of Latin America and the Caribbean
* Commitment to career in academic library and information science or related field
* Record of academic achievement
* Competency in one or more of the area’s languages

* Unofficial transcript

Kay Baker Scholarship to Attend Massachusetts Library Association Conference 2013

The MLA is offering five (5) scholarships to help first time attendees defray the costs of attending the annual MLA Conference.
The scholarships are available to current and future library staff who wish to attend the Conference at the Hyatt in Cambridge Wednesday April 24 – Friday April 26, 2013.

Who is eligible?

* All applicants must be first time MLA Annual Conference attendees.
* Massachusetts librarians and paralibrarians. All staff levels are encouraged to apply!
* Massachusetts librarians or paralibrians who are between jobs.
* Massachusetts residents who are enrolled in an accredited M.L.S. program or who are new graduates of an accredited M.L.S. program.
* Currently serving Trustees of a Massachusetts Library
* Current members of a Massachusetts Library Friends group.

Two (2) scholarships will be awarded to current students.
Three (3) additional scholarships will be awarded to Massachusetts librarians, paralibrarians, trustees or friends.

When is the deadline and when are winners announced?
Applications must be submitted by March 27th.
Winners will be announced April 5th.

2013 Roger Summit LIS Scholarship

The 2013 Roger K. Summit Scholarship, presented annually in honor of Dialog’s founder, a pioneer in information systems design. Applications are being accepted now through April 30, 2013.

This $5,000 (USD) award is presented to a student currently enrolled in an accredited library or information science program anywhere in the world. It is one of the many ways ProQuest shows its support for librarianship.

Samuel H. Kress Foundation Summer Educational Institute Scholarships, Summer Educational Institute for Visual Resources and Image Management (SEI), University of Michigan in Ann Arbor

The Art Libraries Society/North America (ARLIS/NA) and the Visual Resources Association Foundation (VRAF) are pleased to announce the Samuel H. Kress Foundation Summer Educational Institute Scholarships for SEI 2013.

The Samuel H. Kress Foundation, http://www.kressfoundation.org/, has generously agreed to sponsor five scholarships for the 2013 ARLIS/NA-VRAF Summer Educational Institute for Visual Resources and Image Management. SEI 2013 will be held at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, June 18-21, 2013. The intensive three and a half-day workshop will feature a curriculum that specifically addresses the requirements of today’s information professional, and will include hands-on and lecture modules At SEI 2013, expert instructors will cover intellectual property rights, digital imaging, metadata and cataloging, the essential tools of image management, and how to expand your professional role. Attendees will also have an opportunity to discuss and brainstorm on a range of issues, from new media and marketing visual resources to professional development and future career roles, during the interactive session planned for the final morning of SEI.

Kress Summer Educational Institute Scholarship recipients will each receive $770 for tuition, room, and incidentals.

The George A.
