PRIMARY DUTIES

This full-time (40 hour) position in the public library includes some evening and weekend hours. The person in this position manages the library’s information systems, manages the technology and electronic resources department budget and expenditures, acts as vendor liaison for electronic databases and software and assists library staff with all manners of computer related issues and training. As a member of our professional staff this person will also stay informed of innovations in the use of technology in library settings and recommends, plans, and implements those that are appropriate. She/he will supervise the information technology department staff and will provide direct customer service 10 hours per week at one of our service desks.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

MLS from an ALA accredited school, minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience administering library systems and technologies. The Mississippi State University Libraries provide their community of users an ongoing, creative, and technologically advanced library program and is currently seeking an Electronic Resources Librarian to serve as a member of a dynamic Technical Services team committed to the successful management of the Libraries’ collection of electronic resources.

Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Electronic Resources, the essential duties and responsibilities include
collaboration with relevant personnel and departments in the management of electronic resources, with an emphasis on cataloging;
collaborates with cataloging and participates in cataloging department special projects; activates and authenticates electronic journal access, including the resolution of access problems; assists in maintaining the Electronic Resource Management system; assists with procedures pertaining to the processing of invoices for electronic resources; participates in the license review process for electronic resources; serves on library committees, including the Electronic Resources Evaluation committee; participates in appropriate collection development activities as a library liaison to one or more academic departments; meets library and university requirements for promotion and tenure in the areas of librarianship, research, service and collegiality.

The Hampshire College Library Center seeks an outstanding individual for the position of Systems and Discovery Librarian.

Reporting to the Director of the Library in a collaborative team environment, the Systems & Discovery Librarian will design, implement, and assess (metadata-reliant) processes and other knowledge discovery strategies to enable access to research resources in all formats. Leads library-wide efforts to optimize a suite of discovery and retrieval systems designed to help users access collections; leveraging relevant technologies to provide user-centric services for information access and discovery in digital and physical realm.

The Librarian will lead the continuous improvement extension and integration of the library’s various systems and search tools; including the library catalog, discovery layer, library website, Electronic Resource Management, institutional repository and other digital delivery platforms. They will oversee the acquisitions department, and provides cataloging and metadata for resources, and shares expertise, to support across-collection access. This position will facilitate streamline and consolidated access to collections working collaboratively with Circulation and Media Services; and collaborating with colleagues to design, develop, and implement seamless information access services around user workflows, leveraging existing library discovery tools (which include the library online catalog, next-generation faceted discovery tools, e-journal/e-book portals and link resolver) and relevant technologies. In addition, the Librarian provides, monitors, and manages proper cataloging standards and procedures for all materials; collects and analyses system and building usage data to better understand and map services and resources to meet user’s needs; manages the acquisition and control of serial subscriptions and monograph purchases; and develops strong working, collaborative partnerships within the library, with campus IT, the Hampshire community, and Five Colleges, This position supervises, mentors, evaluates, and develops a strong staff with a focus on excellent service.

Master’s degree in Library Information Science (ALA Accredited), or equivalent, and a minimum of 3 years of related experience is required. A record of successful leadership, managerial, strategic planning and supervisory experience related to the position; current, innovative and successful experiences with a broad range of library access and technical services, resource sharing, and online catalog, discovery, and other access systems. Knowledge of cataloging standards, authority control, subject analysis, and controlled vocabulary as well as current and emerging metadata standards and tools, including MARCXML, Dublin Core, MODS and METS preferred. Knowledge of XML, XSLT is required. Candidate should possess strong computer skills and proficiency with heterogeneous operating systems; have demonstrated ability to work with computer hardware and software application related to library services as well as a working familiarity with one or more local library management system, such as ALEPH. DESCRIPTION:

The Research & Instruction Liaison for the Humanities serves as a research partner, a technology specialist, an educator, an instructional consultant, and a frequent point of contact to faculty and students in the Humanities (with an emphasis on support for literature, history, the languages, and digital humanities) within a merged library/information technology organization. The Research & Instruction Liaison for the Humanities facilitates the use of information resources and technology in teaching, learning, and scholarship for faculty and students in the Humanities departments and some interdisciplinary programs. As a member of the Research and Instruction Liaison Team, this librarian/technologist is responsible for research consultations, instructional services, and information resource development for the assigned areas and assists in implementing appropriate educational systems and technologies that support student and faculty learning and scholarship. This librarian/technologist collaborates with other LIS and academic staff to further the mission and priorities of the college.

This position is a part of the Liaison Team of the Research and Instruction (R&I) Department, a group composed of professional educators with varied backgrounds – librarians, web designers, instructional designers, and instructional technologists. Liaisons are assigned to different areas of the curriculum – Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences – in a way that ensures that the faculty and students have appropriate support and access to the information resources and technologies necessary to their disciplines. The liaisons share a common skill set, while each brings a unique set of skills to the group and to the curriculum.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position works in partnership with faculty, appropriate colleagues in LIS, and the Humanities departments (with an emphasis on support for literature, history, the languages, and digital humanities) to educate, inspire, and support academic research, effective instruction methods, and creative work in diverse areas of knowledge through the use of information resources and technology. This includes developing special knowledge and expertise with appropriate technologies that support teaching, learning and scholarship in the Humanities. It also includes course and assignment design and teaching classes with faculty that involve the use of information and technology. The position promotes information and technology fluency in Wheaton’s Humanities students so that they can use information and technology tools and resources effectively, analytically, ethically, legally, and critically. This includes serving as library liaison to multiple first-year seminars, teaching classes at all levels related to acquiring information fluency, and providing research consultations and instructional services for these courses. The position also provides a primary point of contact for LIS academic services to faculty and students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

*American Library Association-accredited Master’s Degree, or Master’s degree in Humanities and comparable combination of education and work experience is required.

*Degree or minor in one of the humanities is required.

*2-3 years of professional employment in an academic or special library strongly preferred.

Position Title: Technical Services Librarian (Cataloger) – Part Time (25 hours)

Reports to: Library Director

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Technical Services Librarian/Lead Cataloger catalogs, classifies, and reclassifies materials for the collection. Updates, enhances, and modifies bibliographic and item records in the Library’s online catalog as needed. Trains catalogers; fields cataloging questions from Library staff and other catalogers within the Southern NH Library Cooperative.

The Technical Services Librarian/Cataloger also provides services to support patrons’ use of the Library resources and services, is responsible for specialized areas of library operations and provides support to the Library Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Performs original descriptive and subject cataloging for various library materials.

2. Understands cataloging rules and standards.

3. Performs copy cataloging in all subject areas.

4. Create original Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC) records to add to the library’s online catalog.

5. Classify using the Dewey decimal classification and construct call numbers for materials added to the Library’s collection.

6. Provide overall direction and assistance to staff assisting in performing cataloging activities.

7. Create item record and print spine label for each physical item.

8. Primary responsibility for maintenance of the library catalog.

9. Determine appropriate treatments for series or multipart items.

10. Provide assistance to other catalogers/library assistants in resolving difficult cataloging problems.

11. Participates in database cleanup projects.

12. Attends staff meetings, conferences, and educational opportunities as appropriate to the position and within the budget.

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Actively participate in team meetings and activities to support the Library’s mission, goals and objectives.

2. Assist library patrons with circulation, basic information questions, interlibrary loan and related functions.

3. Assist patrons in the use of electronic library resources such as the online catalog, research databases, downloadable e-books & audio books, Internet, etc.

4. Assist patrons to use equipment such as computers, scanners, printers, photocopies, and e-book readers. Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment (toner, etc.).

5. Close and open the Library at the start and end of the day.

6. Responsible for library services’ cashiering, safekeeping of cash and performing cash reconciliation including cash counts.

7. Work flexible schedule including evenings and some Saturdays.

8. Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE

· Minimum of two years experience working as a technical services librarian/cataloger.

· Knowledge of Koha ILS preferred.

· Knowledge of cataloging practices and procedures and knowledge of library automation systems.

· Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new technical skills, changing library technology and library resources.

· Ability to take lead responsibility for areas of specialization.

· Ability for high degree of accuracy working with detailed data in print, non-print and digital data.

· Minimum of two years experience working with computer software applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

· Demonstrated good communication skills (verbal, writing, spelling).

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING

· MLS preferred and professional/practical library experience in public, academic or research library utilizing traditional and new library systems and techniques.

DESCRIPTION:

Noble and Greenough School seeks an enthusiastic entry level professional librarian with a MLS/MLIS/MIS from an ALA accredited graduate school. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy serving youth in grades middle through high school. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
