Data Migration Librarians (Remote), Dublin OH

LAC Group is seeking Data Migration Librarians for a 6-month contract working for our client, a prestigious organization located in Dublin, Ohio. This is a remote position and you will primarily participate in assisting OCLC member libraries with the migration of their data from their existing library management system to a new worldwide management system (WMS). We are looking for exceptional candidates with previous experience working in the library industry, particularly with technical services and integrated library systems. This This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position working with LAC Group on a 6 month contract. Need is immediate and the role is remote.

Responsibilities:

Primarily participate in assisting OCLC member libraries with the migration of their data from their existing library management system to WMS;
Educating member libraries on the WMS data migration service;
Documenting member library’s data migration needs and defining project scope;
Serving as central hub of communication between member library and data migration teams;
Identifying and implementing process improvements to the data migration process;

Qualifications:

Masters of Library Science Degree (MLIS);
4-6 years’ experience working in the library industry;
Basic knowledge of library workflows and integrated library systems (ILS);
Strong knowledge of MARC cataloging standards and practices;
Experience managing projects (managing relationships; scheduling project plans; communicating clearly and professionally;
Experience producing high-quality deliverables (documents, analyses; project plans) in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment;
Experience working collaboratively with several internal parties (development; product management; quality assurance; sales)
Superior communication skills, both written and oral;
Ability to think critically to solve problems;
Ability to proactively identify problems and opportunities and act upon them;

Job Description
Cataloger will join a team that is working on-site at the Phillips Library at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Mass., performing copy and original cataloging. Collections include monographic, serial, manuscript and cartographic materials in English and other European and Asian languages.

Cataloger will search for and provide editing of copy records, according to AACR2 and MARC21 formatting standards, including addition of LC classification and subject headings. Cataloger will also work with materials for which there is no copy available to create new original records.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to use Backstage Library Works in-house software for cataloging & physical processing
  • Catalog items in batches and ensure that each batch of items is cataloged correctly
  • Transport materials between the stacks and individual work stations
  • Handle antiquarian materials in accordance with industry guidelines
  • Make informed decisions within given specifications
  • Ensure required levels of throughput and accuracy are maintained

Job description:
The Schlesinger Library has an immediate 3-month opening for an assistant to end process collections processed by the 15 members of the manuscript division. Duties include:

  • Reboxing collections
  • Numbering folders and entering those numbers into EAD finding aid
  • Quality assurance of preservation photocopying
  • Separating and filing fragile (photocopied) materials, restricted materials, and photographs
  • Labeling and barcoding boxes
  • Shelving collections or preparing them for transfer to the Harvard Depository

Requirements:

  • Completion of introductory archives course
  • Proven attention to detail
  • Ability to lift boxes up to 40 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with many members of a large department

Hours:

  • 15 hours a week
  • Flexible hours, Monday-Friday, between 9am and 5pm
  • Hours must be completed in 2, 7.5-hour days

The Resource Sharing service allows reciprocal borrowers, academic and public libraries, and private institutions access to materials held in the MIT Libraries’ collections in print or digital format. The service allows members of the MIT community to access materials not held in the MIT Libraries’ collections in print or digital format. It also supports the unmediated borrowing services for BorrowDirect and the Boston Library Consortium.

Key Duties: Under the supervision of the Resource Sharing Associate, the assistant will process incoming/outgoing mail, prep books for circulation, process requests for BorrowDirect and Boston Library Consortium, and perform other tasks as needed.
Position Requirements: Attention to detail. Capacity to perform repetitive tasks. Ability to lift boxes weighing as much as 40 lbs.

Schedule: Begin ASAP and continue through December 2012 Monday-Friday
20 hours per week between the hours of 11:30am – 3:30pm

POSITION TITLE: Visual Resources Curator
Schedule: Full time

JOB TITLE SUMMARY:

The Visual Resources Curator is responsible for the acquisition, cataloging and maintenance of visual resources in art, consisting of digital image collections. S/he provides students and faculty with effective access to digital art images and image technology training in order to support curriculum needs and promote critical visually literacy skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist students and faculty in the use of library visual resource collections: locating images needed for teaching, research and scholarly publication.
  • Coordinate, manage, circulate and preserve visual resources collections in both digital and analog formats.
  • Acquire digital images from vendors; recording rights and permissions.
  • Maintain and continue to develop a local digital image collection for use in classroom teaching.
  • In cooperation with the Library Collection Development staff, perform all aspects of cataloging for art images according to the VRC core metadata standards.
  • Apply professional visual resources standards, best practices and shared workflow for: image digitization, metadata and preservation for local image collection.
  • Provide faculty support for image presentation tools.
  • Hire, train and supervise 2-3 student workers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history
  • Two years minimum experience working with a visual resource collection, preferably in an academic library setting managing digital assets.
  • Working knowledge of visual resources cataloging practices (VRACore, CCO, AAT) and controlled vocabularies
  • Intermediate knowledge of rights ownership, licensing and fair use copyright doctrine
  • Experience in public service and/or instruction
