REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED SKILLS:

· Perform data collection activities in accordance with research strategies. Activities may include competitive reviews, heuristic reviews, usability tests, surveys, and other means.

· Gather, analyze, and organize the most critical information needed to understand problems.

· Effectively communicate through preparation of reports, documentation, and other written information.

ANTICIPATED RESPONSIBILITIES/PROJECTS:

· Participate in creating a proposal for lab hardware and software upgrade. POSITION OVERVIEW:

The user interface designer is primarily responsible for creating UI designs and maintaining standards that will define the next generation of our products. The designer also needs experience with usability evaluation techniques to test interface designs within iterative product lifecycles. The User Interface Designer will be a member of AIR Worldwide’s Software Development Group consisting primarily of software architects, software engineers and project managers.

Responsibilities:

User interface design activities include creating and iterating static and interactive design models (e.g., Storyboards and wireframes) and authoring detailed user interface specifications.

Secondarily, the user interface designer will be involved in user research activities like work flow and task analyses (e.g., user scenarios) and maintaining style guides.

Qualifications:

* 1 to 3 years designing graphical user interfaces for highly interactive systems is required.
* Knowledge of user centered design practices and research methods is necessary.
* Expertise with interactive design support tools such as Axure RP Pro, MS Visio, MS Expressions Blend, etc. is required.
* Experience creating and maintaining GUI Standards & Design Patterns is preferable.
* Demonstrated experience developing innovative approaches for complex design problems is valuable.
* Technical background and/or a demonstrable understanding of modern software development processes and concerns as they relate to design are desirable.
* Usability inspection and usability testing experience is advantageous.
* Knowledge of the insurance industry is preferable, but not required.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
* A portfolio of design samples is desirable.

The GSLIS Usability Research Assistant is the primary support for the GSLIS
Usability Lab in all aspects of data recording (both audio and video), research support,
application support, faculty support, and quality control. This role will include
working with a variety of usability testing devices, data collection and analysis
software (Morae) and helping with testing scenario building in a multi-platform
environment. The GSLIS Usability Research Assistant will also be responsible for
scheduling all faculty/staff reservations and participant interviews taking place in the
Usability Lab.

The GSLIS Usability Research Assistant is provided with opportunities to develop
and build upon technical skills in usability testing (in the lab or on site), user studies,
project management, customer relations management, faculty support, and research
design methodologies involving usability. This position works collaboratively with
faculty, staff, and students in research and instructional support for usability
techniques involving digital audio and video components. Familiarity with the
research process, statistical software, or qualitative analysis software is useful.
Experience with portable usability lab equipment and use is helpful.
The GSLIS Usability Research Assistant (URA) will report to Professor Rong Tang,
with Linnea Johnson functioning as the immediate supervisor. The URA is part of
the GSLIS Technology team, and is expected to assume team goals and
responsibilities.

The position is expected to start in August 2012, at ten hours per week and at the rate

Put what you learned in your usability, informatics, and information architecture classes to use!

The Information Management team at HBS is developing a process to enhance search functionality which includes examining analytics reports, categorizing similar queries into clusters, and identifying the types of concepts in those queries. We are looking for a part-time intern to help us with these tasks, and that person may be you. You will have the opportunity to work with metadata, taxonomy, analytics, and search experts.

The outcome of this work will be a set of practical, actionable, list of recommendations that can be applied towards improving the search user experience in the HBS environment. These recommendations will be developed and implemented in the span of a couple of months, not years, so you will see the results of your work well before the summer.

Familiarity with XML and Microsoft Excel required. Hours are flexible.

Digital User Experience Librarian: First-Year Services, University of Texas at San Antonio

The University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries is seeking innovative, energetic, user-oriented candidates for the position of Digital User Experience Librarian in the First-Year Services Department at the Main Campus.

Reporting to the Head of First-Year Services, this position will assume a key role in developing user-centered web sites, learning modules, and other applications that intuitively deliver digital collections, resources and services. The person in this position will employ standard user experience design, processes, and research methods and analyze usage statistics and trends to evaluate library usersÂ’ online needs. Working collaboratively in a team environment, this position will coordinate usability assessment for the library, including designing and carrying out usability studies, analyzing usage statistics and user trends to support planning and development, and advising on the user-centered design requirements and recommending solutions for other departments and stakeholders. This position will also work with the Communications Coordinator to provide oversight of changes and new content for the library website via a content management system (CMS). Additional responsibilities will include working to build and manage the librariesÂ’ social media presence; advising and recommending on web standards, styles, and accessibility guidelines; and actively exploring and making recommendations for best practices with current web technologies.

Qualifications & Experiences:
Required: Masters in Human Computer Interaction, Information Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Communication, Sociology, Anthropology, Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors, or related field. One year of experience in usability, web analytics, or related fields. Experience designing and executing web usability studies. Strong knowledge of the field of human-computer interaction, experimental design, observational and field methods and data analysis. Experience with and understanding of Google Analytics or similar web analytics software. Demonstrated ability to work successfully within a collaborative environment with diverse groups. QUAL:

  • 3-5+ years’ experience as usability or user experience professional.
  • 3-5+ years experience applying an advanced level of knowledge in user-centered design methods, gathering user data, interpreting the results, and translating them into solutions and techniques.
  • 2+ years experience demonstrating an intermediate level of knowledge in Universal Design concepts, including  knowledge of Accessibility Federal mandates and guidelines (Section 508 and W3C WAI WCAG Compliance Standards)
