Monday, November 29th, 2010ARLIS/NA will be offering a Webinar entitled A Matter of Discipline: The State of Open Access in the Arts on Friday December 3rd at 2pm. The webinar will provide an overview of open access, and particularly open access publishing, in the arts. This webinar includes a discussion of open access journals and open access repositories. It will discuss applications in multiple disciplines including art history, architecture and design. This is an encore presentation of a talk given at the ARLIS/NA 2010 Boston convention last spring and more information on it is available on the ARLIS/NA website.
Joint VRA and ARLIS/NA Conference in Minneapolis
Thursday, November 18th, 2010The Visual Resource Association (VRA) and ARLIS/NA are hosting a joint converence in Minneapolis from March 24th to March 28th and the conference’s website is now available. In addition to providing information on registration and hotels, the website also has the current schedule for the conference. For more information, go to their website.
Also, for those of you interested in attending the conference, VRA offers several travel awards to help finance conference attendance for both students and visual resource professionals. Applications are due by November 30, 2010. More information is available on the website maintained by the Travel Awards Committee of VRA.

ARLISNA/NE Meeting in Boston
Thursday, November 11th, 2010ARLISNA/NE will be having a meeting in Boston on Friday, December 3rd. The meeting will start with a discussion of chapter business at the William Morris Hunt Memorial Library of the MFA followed by a tour of that library. Then, after lunch, members will have the option of participating in a tour of the MFA’s new Art of the Americas Wing. Finally, in the evening members will meet up again for drinks and to visit the SOWA first Fridays open studios. Those interested in attending should RSVP by Monday, November 29th. When Books Become Art

She specifically highlights the work of Brian Dettmer, who carves up old books to create sculptures that make use of the words and images found in the books.
