Work with ArLiSNAP

ArLiSNAP is looking to fill several positions:

  • The Liaison Coordinator will coordinate with both existing student groups and newly forming groups.
  • The Mentorship Coordinator will seek out and coordinate mentorship opportunities for those interested in art librarianship.
  • The Discussion Coordinator will facilitate ongoing discussions by posting on topics of interest to the membership.
  • The Blog Poster will be responsible for creating high-quality blog posts for the ArLiSNAP blog on topics of interest to both students and young professionals in the field.

Two Great Jobs

ArLiSNAP posted two very interesting jobs on their blog today.

First, the Barnes Foundation in Pennsylvania is looking for an art librarian to manage the Foundation’s art library. More information is available on the ArLiSNAP blog or on the online application.

2011 ARLIS/NA VRA Conference

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program is funding a Preservation Administration Fellowship at Yale University for the 2011/2012 year.  The Fellow will have an opportunity to work in each section of the Preservation Department and will also have an opportunity to travel to other libraries.  Applications for the Fellowship are due May 2nd.  More information is available on the Simmons Job & Opportunities website.

Volunteer Positions at the SMFA Library

The SMFA Library is currently seeking two volunteers for very different positions.  The Journalist Volunteer will produce communications to promote the Library’s services and programs and will assist with promotion of the library to the school community.  The Copy Cataloging Volunteer will work with the librarian and associate librarian on processing and cataloging donations and new acquisitions.  This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable library experience while also helping a local art library!  More information on both of these positions and the application process can be found on the volunteer opportunity webpage.

The Massachusetts College of Art and Design is currently hiring a Photographer II/Digital Imaging Specialist. The job posting states that this individual “creates, edits, and catalogs digital images, provides maintenance of the digital image database, and collaborates with the Visual Resources Librarian and the Visual Resources Curator to provide digital image service and instruction to faculty, students, and staff.” The job will also include other library-related duties. The Election for ArLiSNAP’s 2011 to 2013 Coordinator

ArLiSNAP is currently holding elections for the position of Coordinator from 2011 to 2013.  According to the ArLiSNAP blog, “Coordinator responsibilities include advancing the concerns of students and new professionals within ARLIS/NA, facilitating special projects, and organizing ArLiSNAP’s annual meeting activities for the national ARLIS/NA conference.”  Three people are running for the position, one of whom is Stefanie Maclin who is a Simmons alum and was a Panopticon officer just last year.  Information about all of the candidates can be found on the blog as well in the post entitled ArLiSNAP Coordinator 2011-2013 Sought.  Voting is open from now until 11:59pm on Monday, March 21st.  The ballot is available online at: http://arlisnap.org/2011/03/14/elections-arlisnap-coordinator-2011-2013-vote/.

One Day Event in NYC

The Theatre Library Association is hosting a one day symposium on Shakespeare in New York City on April 22nd.  The event is called Holding Up the Mirror: Authenticity and Adaptation in Shakespeare Today and will include presentations by the leader’s of four of the top theatre organizations in the United States, who will speak about the process of adapting Shakespeare’s plays.  The event is $25 for students and this price includes a one-year membership in the Theatre Library Association.  For those who are interested in the topic but cannot attend, the Theatre Library Association has posted a lengthy bibliography of works on this general topic on their website.

Two Upcoming Events

The ARLIS/NA calendar highlights two upcoming events of interest to art librarians.

First, the Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta will be hosting the 4th annual Artist’s Book Symposium.  The symposium is free and open to the public, so if you are going to be in the area, you should definitely check it out!

Then, from April 6th through the 9th, the Museums and the Web 2011 conference will be in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The event promises to have a wide range of programs of interest to museum, library and archive professionals and there will also be a number of pre-conference workshops.  Students who register by April 1st are eligible for the student registration rate.
