  • Fall Events
    • Coffee Hours: SCoSAA will be hosting two coffee hours a month at Java City; there will be one in the afternoon and one in the evening so that everyone has a chance to come.  Coffee hours serve as a forum for networking, discussions, and creating relationships with your colleagues at GSLIS.
    • Thursday, 22 September, 5 to 6:30 pm: This coffee hour is a chance for archives students, at all stages, to talk about their experience in the GSLIS program.  You can also address any questions or concerns about 438 and the internship or give advice if you’ve already taken the course.
    • Monday, 26 September, 12:30 to 1:30 pm: Curious about SAA’s annual meeting?  Want to share your SAA experiences?  Come for an informal discussion about it.
    • Archives Month: October is National Archives Month!  And we have a lot of exciting events planned.
    • A Night with Amy Benson
      • Wednesday, 5 October, 4:30 pm in P-206
      • SCoSAA and ALASC co-host a Night with Amy Benson, Librarian/Archivist for Digital Projects at Harvard’s Schlesinger Library.  Benson will share insight on digital archives work.
    • Join SCoSAA members at NEA’s Fall Meeting
      • 14 – 15 October
      • Since this fall’s meeting will be held at Dartmouth, which is not directly accessible by public transportation, SCoSAA will post a rideshare wiki in the coming weeks.  Look for that soon.
    • Tour at the Harvard University Archives
      • Thursday, 21 October, 1 to 2 pm
    • “Emerging Practices in Archival Description”
      • Wednesday, 26 October, 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Special Functions Room
      • Panelists will talk about emerging trends in archival description and EAD.  Speakers include Aaron Rubenstein of Tufts, Erica Boudreau of the JFK Library, and Kate Bowers of the Harvard University Archive.
    • Contests
      • We will be hosting contests surrounding archives advocacy, such as an elevator speech contest.  So start planning your answers!
    • Website
      • At our meeting, we officially launched our website.  On it, you will find news, blog posts, event info, academic and professional resources, and so much more. Check it out here!  (Thanks to Allie, our awesome webmaster, for such an amazing site!
  • Want To Get Involved?
    • Student groups are a great way to start getting involved in the profession.  We have a number of ways to do so:
      1. Want to be an Archivist? We have an opening for the position of Archivist.  Tasks include maintaining and preserving SCoSAA records; photographing SCoSAA events; contributing to the SCoSAA blog; assisting with finding content for the website’s news page; and assisting the co-chairs as needed. An email requesting nominations for this position will be sent out shortly.
      2. Blogging: Would you like to share your experiences about classes or work?  Or would like to contribute about an engaging article you’ve read or an interesting repository you’ve visited?  If so, we would love to have you as a guest blogger on our new website.  Contact us if this interests you!
      3. By attending events, you’re getting involved.  Also let us know if you’d like to volunteer with flier design or distribution, etc.
      4. Email us your ideas! Is there an event you’d like to see SCoSAA host?  Let us know, and we’ll try our best to make it happen!
      5. Lastly, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter (@SCoSAA).  We will post information about events, contests (and winners!), and other cool things there too.
If you have any questions about the meeting or would like to volunteer, feel free to contact Amanda (amanda.strauss@simmons.edu) or Camille (camille.torres@simmons.edu).
