Each member of my household remembers the Nantucket Athenaeum with a smile and a laugh. We were on the worst vacation of our lives, staying on overcrowded Nantucket, in an overcrowded, noisy bed and breakfast. The weather was bad and we were cooped up in a garret so small that my five year-old kept hitting his head on the ceiling whenever he sat up in bed. To keep the peace, I suggested that we split up for the afternoon. My husband stomped out of the room, not telling us where he was going. My son and I walked out a few minutes later and headed toward Nantucket's public library, the Athenaeum. We walked in and immediately burst into laughter - my husband had headed straight for the Athenaeum as well. My boy and I escaped to the children's room, leaving my husband to chill out in the front reading room. All's well that ends well.
