Librarians Need to Get a Second Life, presented by Tom Clark
Second Life, the virtual on line society, offers an opportunity for the library world to enter into new partnerships to help build a viable new space for work and play. Already, business has moved in to take advantage of the savvy Second Life commerce. See how librarians can play and work in this world and how the growing remote workforce needs the digital librarian more than ever to enhance the virtual working environment.
Tom Clark is the Technical Information Lead for SunLibrary, Sun Microsystem's Corporate Library. Prior to Sun, Tom worked for LexisNexis, Johnson & Johnson and the Boston Herald. A Simmons GSLIS grad, Tom has been active in SLA since his student days, and currently is the SLA Boston Chapter President Elect.
Aggregating Information for Library Users, presented by Nicole Hennig

Blogs in the work place, presented by Brandy King
Librarians can no longer put off joining the blogosphere in hopes that it is a passing trend. It’s becoming more and more essential that librarians become active readers of and contributors to blogs in order to connect with their patrons. We’ll look at some reasons to start reading and writing for blogs, ways to keep track of your favorites, and tools for starting your own.
Brandy King, a 2003 GSLIS alum, is the Information Specialist at the Center on Media and Child Health (CMCH), based at Children's Hospital Boston. She is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the CMCH Database of Research, the first database dedicated to research on the heath effects of media on children and adolescents. She also provides reference services and maintains the CMCH website and blog. She is active in the Boston Chapter and the Social Sciences Division of SLA.
