National Network of Libraries of Medicine - This web site is for both professional and non-professional librarians new to health or hospital libraries. It seeks to provide instant access to quality resources which will help the medical librarian meet the needs of the patron. (Membership in the NN/LM is free! This site is full of information for medical librarians and the public.)

SLA Divisions & Sections

The scope of the Biomedical and Life Sciences Division encompasses all aspects of the life sciences, both pure and applied, including: biology and biochemistry, zoology and botany, microbiology, genetics, biotechnology, evolution, ecology, veterinary and human medicine, health sciences, and other aspects of the life sciences not specifically noted, or encompassed by another SLA Division.

The Medical Section of the Biomedical and Life Science Division, serves as a forum for Division members who are engaged or interested in the exchange of information in the biomedical and health sciences, and the acquisition, organization, dissemination, and use of such information in all formats.

The Pharmaceutical and Health Technology Division (P&HT) of the Special Libraries Association provides a forum for the exchange of information and ideas among individuals interested in the collection, storage, retrieval, analysis, and dissemination of information in all aspects of the pharmaceutical, biomedical, biotechnical, cosmetic, medical device, and other health care fields. P&HT is involved in all aspects of information science, as related to education, research, business and marketing in the health care field.


Massachusetts Health Sciences Library Network - MAHSLIN

MAHSLIN will serve as the leading resource to Health Sciences Librarians for education, advocacy, and networking.

MAHSLIN serves and represents members by:

  • Promoting professional development of Health Sciences Librarians through education, information, and peer interaction.
  • Advocating for its members and for their role in the health care industry. Working with national, regional, and other state organizations to shape health information policy.
  • Facilitating the acquisition and transfer of information among Health Sciences Libraries through the use of current technology.

Medical Library Association - MLA

Founded in 1898, MLA is a nonprofit, educational organization of more than 1,100 institutions and 3,600 individual members in the health sciences information field, committed to educating health information professionals, supporting health information research, promoting access to the world's health sciences information, and working to ensure that the best health information is available to all.

This site also has some excellent information about finding appropriate resources for health consumers as well as job postings.
