NEASIS&T Program Committee Meeting Notes
[edit]
Feb. 14, 2006
These notes are a broad summary of the NEASIS&T Program Committee meeting, taken by Simmons chapter vice chair Alison Cody.
- Next Meeting: 14 March 2006. Simmons chapter members are welcome, but should first contact [mailto: caryn.anderson@simmons.edu Caryn Anderson] for details.
- Wikimania
- The organizers recently issued a call for papers, and the idea of proposing a workshop was discussed. A discussion for a librarian/educator “wikis in action” panel sprung out of this idea; it was then discussed in light of Wikimania and whether the panel should be proposed as a Wikimania panel, or an independent event perhaps run simultaneously around the same time.
- Simmons chapter
- Caryn had attended the Simmons College ASIS&T chapter meeting the previous week and has been in conversation with board members about coordinating some co-sponsored activities with NEASIS&T, one of which would be a career day. The Simmons chapter would like to do a career day that is more interactive than a panel discussion. "Speed Geeking" was suggested as a fun, interactive way to conduct a career and networking event that would also allow NEASIS&T members to socialize with one another.
- Identity Management
- Folks are working to get someone from the Identity Gang at the Berkman Center to speak in April. In order to flesh out a solid program it was suggested that we find speakers to talk about privacy issues, products in development for managing identity, and/or someone to do an introduction to cover a little history about identity management. Discussion of possible speakers followed.
- Web Widgets for libraries / Library 2.0
- A day-long program about tools for exposing library resources and also Library 2.0 tools generally was suggessted. The committee discussed possible speakers for this event.
- Stephen Krug
- Stephen Krug (Advanced Common Sense) is interested/willing to do an after-work cocktail hour event; details are being worked out.
- A half-day workshop on RSS (what its good for, how to build a feed, how to repurpose feeds in HTML pages) is also in the works, though no date has been set.
