Gubb.net

From LIS 460 Summer 2007

What Is It

gubb is a web-based application, which helps users create, manage as well as share lists with friends. It is free and users only need a desktop browswer, such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari in order to use it. gubb can also be used on mobile phones or PDA's.

How To Use gubb

Users only need a password and username, which they can set up when they sign up for gubb. Lists on gubb can be private. A user may create any kind of list that they want. For example, some people may create a life goal list or a list of activities that they wish to accomplish by the end of the week. A user may choose to share their list with friends, who may also use gubb and vice versa.

Using gubb in the School Library

gubb can be used by a librarian to organize his or her weekly activities. It's always useful to be able to keep track of when an author will visit or when you are supposed to weed the bookshelves. A librarian may also create a list of what should would like to accomplish in the library by the end of the year, such as starting a DVD collection or receiving grant money in order to purchase a Smartboard.

Another way of using gubb is by having a technology workshop and inviting students and teachers to learn how to use the application. Students could use gubb in order to keep track of assignments and their extra curricular activities. It could help remind them of the big algebra test that they need to study for the research project that they need to finish on the civil war.

Teachers, on the other hand, could use gubb in order to organize their daily activities in the classroom. They could share the list with the school librarian, so that he or she could see what lesson plans the teacher intends to teach for the week, month or even year. By sharing the lists, librarians can figure out how to collaborate with teachers because they will know what is on the classroom agenda. gubb is another way of opening up the communication pathways between teachers and librarians. Teachers and librarians will choose to use gubb in order to communicate because the software is designed specifically for organizational purposes and has an interface that users will find easy to use.
