From LIS 460 Summer 2007

I am a Rutgers MLIS student, with only one more semester to go after this one! I am taking this course through the WISE program, and I'm really excited to see how other schools conduct online classes. I am in Rutger's first cohort of online students (so we've been the guinea pigs of the program). While it's great to have an entire program online (no campus visits at all), there have been many bumps in the road in my 2 years. I'm on the School Media Specialist track (the only two tracks that are offered entirely online right now are Digital Libraries and School Media Specialist)and I plan to work in an elementary school media center when I'm finished my degree. This is my first class that has used a wiki as part of the instruction, I'm looking forward to playing around with it.

I currently live in Brooklyn, NY. I've taught 5th grade for the past 2 years in Bedford Stuyvesant, in a Title 1 school, in an impoverished neighborhood. It's a challenge, but I love it. I'm moving at the end of the summer to Philadelphia and I'll do my last semester (field experience) in South Jersey. I grew up in South Jersey, so moving to Philly is like moving home for me!

Besides teaching and graduate school, in my free time (what little there is of that...) I enjoy just about everything that living in NYC has to offer - museums, parks, beaches, concerts... culture galore. I will certainly miss it.
