Software and web sites

From LIS 460 Summer 2007

During this class you will use a combination of web-based tools and software in order to complete weekly assignments and activities. Below is a list of what you'll need:

Software

  • Audacity - you'll need to download the Audacity software and also download the LAME encoder. The encoder download links are available via the Audacity site. I'll give you more directions on that during the class.
  • Inspiration - and Kidspiration These software programs provide 30 day trials. You'll want to time the download to be later in June so that you can have access when needed in the class.
  • iTunes - for subscribing to podcasts
  • Second Life - (If you would like to get started with Second Life along with downloading the software you will need to setup an avatar - a virtual representation of yourself)
  • Skype - for voice communication in real-time with classmates and me.

Accounts

  • del.icio.us- you just need to setup an account with del.icio.us that you'll use for this class.
  • Google tools - including Docs and Spreadsheets, Google Reader, and gTalk.
  • Twitter - setup an account at Twitter for posting quick messages to your classmates and me.
  • You will use a blog in this class. If you don't already have one setup that you can use for the class you can use any web-based blogging tool that you would like. Some possibilities are Blogger, Vox, Live Journal, Blog City.
