Meeting minutes from October 14, 2009 MSLA Kickoff!!!
Attendees: Jamie Phillips, Dan Fleming, Fran Zilonis, Em Claire Knowles, Alexis (Brown) Kennedy, Emily Sypole, Cressida Hanson
Agenda items included a welcome to new students and an overview of planning and programing for the year:
Discussion primarily resolved around drumming up participation in and support of this year's student group.
- We are going to talk up MSLA_SIG in SLTP classes all this week and next. Specifically that we are looking for nominees for this year's Council. We still need a co-chair, a secretary and a treasurer.
- Monthly MSLA-SIG meetings will also feature a "topic of interest" for all of us School Librarians to be. Prior to discussing our usual business, we can arrange 10 minute Q&As to get answers to questions or talk about some hot topics. Potential topics might be:
- How to get on the LibraryTeach listerv?
- Answers to all your Practicum questions. What is it like? What to expect? How do I fill out all of those forms?
- After graduation, how do you get out of state certification?
- Questions about School Library classes? Roundtable discussion.
- Professional Resources
- What Jobs are out there right now!??!?!
- International study
ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS/QUESTIONS ARE MORE THAN WELCOME!! Just contact one of your council members!
- Flyers to advertise monthly meetings. Need to find out which days are best for most people to attend!
- Mentoring Program: If you are a new student and want to be hooked up with a "veteran," just contact us and we will hook you up with a mentor via email!
- We need a theme for the 2010 conference! Any ideas???
- Career/Interview panel planning to commence ASAP.
- MSLA trip to see Where the Wild Things are. Date and time to follow.
