Robin's Peek's Writing on Open Access

I do quite a bit of writing on digital publishing in general and open access in particular. I am also an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Simmons College. I co-founded the Open Access Directory (OAD) with Peter Suber last April. Now that I have permission to reproduce my work in an OA-way with an embargo, I am trying to find the time to get my own writings together from their post-print status.

I also write in other areas, such as digital publishing, and I am going to put these works on another other wiki pages at a later time. However, this may take awhile, the last couple of years have been exceptionally busy. (I broke my shoulder, badly, among other things) But I am going to make it a priority to keep this up to date.

When I began coding this page in HTML I came to realize that I was building to be like a wiki page, which is a platform I work with a great deal. Then it dawned on me just to build it on a wiki and lock down the pages. Under my contract I should be using PDFs for my postprints and I will when I place them in the repository. But I wanted to have an text-driven version and so here you are. I am also participating in Citizendium and if I have writings that work for a collaborative project I will place them there.

My OA writings are typically, but not exclusively, from Information Today. I have written a column for them for over 10 years called "Focus on Publishing" and the commentary can range from straightforward to quite opinionated. In the paper version the column exists in the Opinion-Editorial section. However, I sometimes do write straight news pieces, usually called NewsBreaks" and I can only link to them from here under my rights agreement.

This wiki is still being developed but the OA movement will not wait for me to get thorough the task of scanning in all of the print.

But I scan in my peer-reviewed works, which is where the irony begins and my involvement in OA can be found.
