The Shoe(s)

On a trip to Amsterdam I found more than one pair such as these discarded on the street. I had to take a picture. Why would someone leave their shoes behind in the middle of the street? Possibilities:

1. Shoeless Joe got some new kicks
2. These shoes were the wrong size
3. These shoes were uncomfy, and caused bunions
4. These shoes belong to some poor, helpless tourist who took off his shoes because he just didn't know what else to do
5. A very mean looking Dutch person forced a poor, helpless tourist to take off his shoes and leave them in the street

These are all possibilities that may explain why there was a pair of homeless shoes lying in the streets, but check this out: Why just one?
