INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT LIBRARY: INTERNSHIP & VISITING PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMME
The International Criminal Court Library is recruiting highly-qualified applicants to participate in the Court-wide internship and visiting professional programme in 2007-2008. Through this programme, the Court aims to promote understanding of the Court among individuals, governments, academics, practitioners and civil society organisations. Furthermore the Court aims to contribute to the gradual proliferation of practitioners and scholars genuinely familiar with and supportive of its work. Library science students and professionals wishing to gain relevant field experience are encouraged to apply.
Eligibility
Candidates under 35 years of age should apply for the internship programme. Internships are offered for a period of between three and six months. Candidates older than 35 should apply for the visiting professional programme. Visiting professional placements are offered for a period of between one and three months.
The Court respects and values diversity and therefore encourages applications from candidates of all nationalities and cultures to its Internship and Visiting Professional Programme.
Required qualifications:
- Student or graduate of a postgraduate degree in library science (Masters in Library Science (MLS), Masters in Information Science (MLIS) or an equivalent diploma)
- Expertise in law librarianship and information technology.
- Interest in legal research and international law, particularly international criminal law
- Fluency in at least one of the Court's working languages: English and French.
Desirable qualifications:
- Cataloguing and classification experience
- Reference and research experience
- Web design experience
- Knowledge of another official language of the Court: Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, and Russian
Job Description:
The intern/visiting professional will be mentored by the Chief Librarian and other library staff members. Within the limits of delegated authority, he or she will perform various duties including:
- Cataloguing and classification
- Providing reference services to ICC staff members
- Conducting bibliographic research for collection development
- Drafting reports, correspondence, and grant applications in order to solicit donations
- Developing the Library's intranet page
- Organising UN Documents
- Physical processing of materials
- Developing Knowledge Centre database projects
Remuneration
Interns and visiting professionals are not paid, but may receive a stipend to cover basic costs depending on financial need.
Deadline
The Library is within the organ of the Registry, which has two application deadlines per year. Apply before December 1st for a position beginning between April 1st and September 30th, and apply by June 1st for a position beginning between October 1st and March 31st.
