Job Title: Supervisor, Information Services
Department: Information Services
Reports To: Manager, Information Services

Position Summary: Provides comprehensive research and information services to consulting and administrative staff using appropriate electronic, print, and other resources. Frequently works as part of case teams to assist in research planning, information management, training, and capture of research experience.

May supervise activities of a Technical Services team which consists of one or more Full and/or Part-time staff members who manage the information center’s collections: acquisition and cataloging of books and serial publications, perform filing and data entry and provide clerical support for the department. Also, may supervise staff members in their provision of Research to consulting staff.

Core Responsibilities and Duties:

Research and Reference:

  • Conduct research for case teams, Practice Areas, and client development utilizing electronic, print, and other resources as appropriate
  • Provides filtered and often synthesized research results
  • Proactively work with Case Team Manager to understand the context of the case and specific case information needs
  • Staffs Reference Desk periodically

Asset Building (local and regional):

  • Lead ongoing product and service evaluation and collection development activities and participate in implementation as appropriate
  • Develop training materials customized to local office needs
  • Provide regularly scheduled and just in time training for case team members to optimize use of the Information Services Tool Kit
  • Participate in periodic business research training for new consulting and administrative staff at all levels
  • Work with GXC and other Knowledge Management efforts on an ongoing basis to identify and participate in asset building such as Web Page development, development and maintenance of Top Sources (BIS and Industry Pages), and preparation of Definitive Data Sources slides at end of assigned cases.

Technical Services /Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage cataloging, serials check-in, and all collection related activities.
  • Manage the activities of the Technical Services team including the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual and team goals including their

Research related responsibilities:

  • Periodically evaluate team members and recommend changes to salary and bonus awards as appropriate in consultation with Information Center Manager.
  • Facilitate team and customer communication in order to resolve issues
  • Lead Information Center marketing efforts
  • Lead special projects as assigned

Non-Research Related:

  • Track research requests including appropriate chargeback information
  • Work with Case Team Manager to monitor information services costs
  • Lead Information Center marketing efforts
  • Lead special projects as assigned

Professional Development:

  • Regularly participate in skill development activities both internal and external
  • Continually deepen and broaden skill set in response to internal market demand
  • Play active role as mentor/coach to less experienced Information Center staff
  • Lead development of research and reference skills of less experienced Information Center staff

Position Qualifications:

  • Masters of Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution or equivalent experience in a consulting, financial services or other professional services research environment
  • Demonstrated competency in conducting complex research inquiries using electronic and print resources in a fast paced professional services environment such as consulting, financial services or other business setting
  • Proficiency with Zawya, Dialog, Nexis, Dow Jones, OneSource, Profound, Investext and other standard business research tools
  • Training and presentation skills required
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Strong communication skills required
