The Petroleum Institute (PI) was created in 2001 with the goal of establishing itself as a world-class institution in engineering education and research in areas of significance to the oil and gas and the broader energy technologies. The PI’s sponsors and affiliates include Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and four major international oil companies. The campus has modern instructional laboratories and classroom facilities and is now in the planning phase of three major research centers on its campus. The PI is affiliated with the Colorado School of Mines, the University of Maryland (College Park), and Leoben and Linz Universities. PI is in the process of developing future working relationships with other major universities and research institutions around the world to capitalize on joint research areas of interest. Systems and Web Development Librarian - Library
The Petroleum Institute, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates invites applications for the new position of Systems and Web Development Librarian. The successful applicant will lead developments and operations in enhancing library web related activities, integrate access to digital information as well as administer and develop the library’s information management systems. The position reports directly to the Head Librarian.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Develop and implement new Web based applications and user services
- Create, integrate, structure, and ensure access to digital information services and resources that support teaching, learning, and research
- Establish policies and standards for presentation of web based content and services
- Manage and administer all aspects of the library’s Integrated Library Management System (ILMS), Horizon
- Liaise with system vendor and Institute’s IT department for development of the system
- Provide technical expertise, support and training for the successful operation and development of the ILMS
- Complete projects reports and other assigned tasks within established time frames so that library system goals and objectives are met and services delivered efficiently and effectively
- Manage and administer all aspects of the Library’s various information systems
- Provide technical expertise, support, and training for digital library planning and development
- Plan and coordinate training of library staff and others in the use of internal and external information technologies and collect and coordinate appropriate statistics
- Support and manage library workstations and associated equipment
- Assist in development of an Information Commons and related services
- Actively pursue partnerships with departments that enhance the library’s visibility of information systems and services
- Serve as the library liaison to appropriate campus committees
- Participate in Library, institutional and other professional activities
- Assist at reference desk as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Accredited ALA MLS degree or equivalent
- Demonstrated/documented evidence of successful management of web projects, computer systems projects and networking
- Knowledge, web design, scripting languages and support skills and of MARC and metadata record structures
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong commitment to public services
- Familiarity with SQL
- Demonstrated substantial experience with an integrated library management system (Dynix, Horizon preferred)
- Familiarity with relational databases and handling a variety of data formats
- 5-7 years relevant library experience preferred
- International library experience an advantage
- Ability to work in a small team environment
- Demonstrated capacity to foster and manage change
- Ability to lead, envision, and plan for future directions
PREFERRED:
Knowledge of standard Microsoft software packages, experience in Web server administration.
Salary / Benefits: The total compensation package includes a 12-month base salary, and a benefits allowance that covers relocation, housing, initial furnishings, utilities, transportation (automobile purchase loan), health insurance, end-of-service benefit, and annual leave travel. Applicants must be in excellent health and will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination.
