SLA Meeting Notes from 8.29.2006

The lovely and wonderful Heather, Darren, and Katherine have volunteered to assist at Orientation, taking place Sept. 5th, 1:00pm.

Flier is needed for the semester events; Digital tools panel, library tours, membership raffle

Discussion of tours; Christian Science Monitor, News library, Fine Arts Museum, Congregational Library, Anjan (forgive my spelling)

Boston Chapter news/events

Aqarium trip – sponsored event meaning awesomeness. Should we pay for new students to attend? Flier needed for event (Nicole).

Other events – Northern Outreach in Portland ME, “Stand out at a job” Sept. 7th, rides available with Tom.

Basketball hall of fame?

November 15th at the Parker House (Tom will not be wearing shorts to this event) for SLA state of affairs. Social Event in December.

The SLA President may be speaking at the Children’s Hospital in the Spring? Brittany would like to have her here at school for coffee/speaking?

Speaker from EIU at Babson – should be a really good speaker

Connecticut Valley wants to join Boston chapter.

Division/chapter essay questions

First meeting! (announce raffle winner) SEPT 14th at 5:30

Annika and Katherine will speak for five minutes about their experiences in special libraries.

Tom – needs to send his bio and 15 minute presentation on tech stuff to Brittany for panel discussion.

Heather – will reserve the lounge for our meetings

Gifts are needed for the panel participants of the “cool tools” panel. Jim said he could provide these.

Skill share, volunteers needed. SLA as a group? Brittany and Annika can talk about their work in international libraries. Syllabi was needed by Sept. 1st.

End of the year party with ASIST. Catering is only cost and should be $150.

Flier for orientation should be catchy with general information to hand out (Brittany).

For Aquarium trip lets meet in student lounge at 5:30

Darren has interest in collaborating with ARLIS, to promote.

60 fliers needed for the aquarium (Nicole).

Submitting budget – Brittany will email Lana to find out, should be $800.

Officer meetings after chapter meetings on the 2nd Thursday of the month.
