Building a human centered library

Adaptive Environments is a non-profit organization committed to universal design: the idea that products and services should be accessible to all users regardless of their ability. Mary-Ann Parker-O’Toole, the Director of Information Management and Librarian at the organization, often consults with outside librarians to ensure that library services and facilities are meeting the needs of all patrons. Currently she is working on building a new special library at Adaptive Environments from the ground up. On April 2, 2007, she spoke at an event sponsored by the Simmons College chapter of the Special Libraries Association about her experiences building her own library, and about universal design principles.
