2009 MSLA Conference - Boys and Reading

On March 28th, 2009 the Massachusetts School Library Association held their annual conference at Simmons College in Boston. Michael Sullivan is the author of Connecting Boys with Books, as well as several other books on the topic. He has been a Children’s Librarian and Library Director in public libraries for more than 15 years.

Social Networking in Public Libraries: LibraryThing for Libraries

Kate Sheehan, an alumnae of GSLIS-West, is the current coordinator of automation at the Danbury Public Library in Danbury, CT. On Saturday October 27th at the offices of GSLIS West in South Hadley, Kate presented “Social Networking in Public Libraries”. Kate highlighted uses for LibraryThing in public libraries. The Danbury Public Library is the first library catalog to integrate Library Thing For Libraries into thier OPAC.

PLG Skillshare: Beyond Subject-Verb-Object: Rethinking Community Needs Assessment

Marcel LaFlamme is a current student in the Master’s degree program at Simmons GSLIS, and co-chair of the Simmons chapter of the Progressive Librarians Guild. On Saturday, September 22, Marcel spoke about the importance of public libraries collaborating with the communities they serve in order to meet their information needs. Marcel’s talk was part of the second annual GSLIS Skill Share, which was sponsored by the Simmons chapter of the Progressive Librarians Guild.
