Open Access Everywhere

The advent of the Internet has had a major impact on the publishing industries. New technologies reduce distribution costs and increase retrieval capabilities. But they also raise questions about traditional models of information distribution. On Wednesday, February 6, 2008, Terry Plum spoke to a gathering faculty and staff at Simmons College about the ways in which the Open Access publishing movement could dramatically reshape scholarly publishing in the coming years. Plum is Assistant Dean for Technology at the Simmons College GSLIS, and also directs the College’s Mount Holyoke program in South Hadley, Massachusetts. His talk was part of the Faculty Lunch Series, sponsored by Simmons College’s Academic Technology department.
