For Spring 2010 Students, the TOR is due March 1st.
- AARC and eLearning
- AARC is your one-stop registration and grade reporting system. eLearning is where many of your instructors will post handouts, syllabi, and other course content.
AARC
AARC is maintained by the Office of the Registrar, and provides access to online academic information for students and faculty. Most students get their first glimpse of AARC on Advising Day, when they register for classes. In addition to registration, AARC allows you to view your class schedule, check your grades, and add or drop courses. It also provides a link to your Student Financial Services account. All of this is accessed through the Student Menu.

Viewing the Student Menu
In order to access the information in AARC, you must login and navigate to the Student Menu:
- Visit http://aarc.simmons.edu
- Click on Login at the top of the screen
- Enter your Simmons username and password
- Click on Students. You should now see the Students Menu with options including Financial Information, Registration, and your Academic Profile
View this AARC Tutorial if you would like a visual example of the activities described above.
eLearning
If you are working through the TOR chronologically, you will have already seen eLearning, when you turned in your PDF screenshot assignment. This section is meant to give you a little more background information about what eLearning is and how it is typically used.
Simmons eLearning is a password-protected course management system used by Simmons College. GSLIS professors typically use eLearning to provide material, course discussions, quizzes, a course calendar, and to post grades online to students. Faculty may customize each online course according to the needs of their students. Many faculty use other technologies, such as wikis, blogs, or personal webpages, to deliver content in addition to eLearning.
Tips for logging in
When you login to eLearning, a Browser Check will run automatically. You should let the pop-up window fully load, and review the status of each item on the list. In the event of problems, the Browser Check will suggest solutions. One thing to note is that eLearning does not yet recognize Firefox 3.0 as a valid or supported browser. This is due to bureaucratic delays, however, so you may use Firefox 3 in spite of the Browser Check warning.
One other thing to note is that the eLearning file upload relies heavily on Javascript. When you first login, you may see a Java popup asking you to "Run" or "Cancel". You should click "Run" to ensure that you will be able to upload files from your computer to eLearning.
Leave your peers a message, and take your first quiz!
Time for your second activity, and your first assessment. Login to elearning and click on the TOR course, then go into the Part 1 folder.
- Find the Spring 2010 discussion board, and respond to the question about your upcoming courses. Feel free to reply to your peers' posts or create a new message. If you have a question about posting, check out the Handout: eLearning Basics Guide, or the short tutorials found in the Student Resource Center on your eLeanring course homepage.
- Complete your Assessment 1: Email, Listservs, and eLearning. You need at least 7 point to pass, and you get three attempts. You may choose to complete this assessment (or any others) at a later time -- just make sure that assessments 1-5 are completed by March 1st.
