- The LISA Database
- This section describes the interface and basics of searching the database LISA, (Library & Information Science Abstracts)
Overview of LISA (Library & Information Science Abstracts)
LISA is an international abstracting and indexing tool designed for library professionals and other information specialists.
- Format: citations and abstracts
- Material indexed: 90% articles, but also includes book reviews, current research, reports and proceedings.
- Dates of coverage: 1969 - present
- Update frequency: every two weeks
Accessing LISA
From the GSLIS Collection home page, LISA Abstracts is available on the Quicklist drop-down menu.
By default, you will be taken to CSA's Advanced Search start screen. CSA is a vendor that provides access to several databases, and in this case you will see that LISA has been selected for you as the database to be searched.
The CSA interface offers numerous Boolean operator search options: Horizontal rows of text boxes are connected by the "or" operator, allowing you to enter several "like terms" for each concept - one per row. Note the drop-down Boolean operator menus on the left, where you choose "and," "or," or "not" to connect the keywords.
Your LISA search results will include article citations and abstracts, and a convenient link to ArticleNow!, which will help you access the full text of each article that is available through Simmons Library databases (we'll learn more about ArticleNow! later in this section).
